An Age I think one must come to a certain “age” when we finally realize we’re not on stage and all of life’s travails we thought mattered are all now simply remembered as tatters of pieces in which our lives were wrought over problems which to ourselves were brought because when one is looking for true happiness sometimes it is easy to mistake genuine bliss. Is this not the best part of aging by far? Now not wondering just where we are but so very glad that we are “there” and not looking for that elusive “somewhere?” Don’t think my life over, for it is just in it’s beginning, and I think now I trust in myself even more, for unhurried’s my lot to place myself in an undefinable spot. And patience, yes, I think I’ve more of that such as losing keys, I know I’ll find them at that place keys go, when playing hide and seek from the couch cushions they shall peek. And pains that I now know, the ones that I feel well, they are even more than ever real but they are pains made by my own choice I know, I speak to them lightly, in sotto voice. What I like best is the wisdom, I swear for young and now old come to compare philosophies and all the rest and now I know which one of them guess. And relationships? Oh, they’re better by far, as I’m not looking for falling stars but rather those aged rocks held in the firmament as among those dinosaurs I’m more content. So if this touch of looking upon age allows you freedom from your self-built cage then I shall know I’ve done my task and questions of life’s passage you shall not ask. For fear there be none, but calm delight as one day travels easily into night and you’ll reach that plateau of golden age while resting on laurels, and not on the stage. ©KRJ 3 September, 1999 ------------------ Sunshine Words will always express our feelings true. ~~~ KRJ Look, then, into thine heart, and write ~~~ Henry Wadsworth Longfellow |

Sunshine, I do not pine my youth upon the stage. But neither am I enamored of old age. Nice poem. |

I loved the poem, but I'm afraid I don't have your resignation - age does have its compensations, but I would still prefer to be in the middle of life still. |

Sy and Sue, thanks for your comments...I guess I'm resigned to it because they've not yet found "The Fountain of Youth"...or middle age, for that matter. Cheers! |
