One dawn I saw the double sun As burst they into vernal plain. I saw and trembled at such sight And vowed that I would meet them twain. Next dawn before the double burst I climbed the highest mount I darest; When up into the strated air, I waited for the double burst. Then they came with double burst; Alpha and Beta were they named. I asked if I may meet Regardless of whether singly or twinned. They answered yes and stretched out their hands And I, in kind, did reach to meet. Back I drew in blistered pain... I forgot about their searing heat. I looked at hand then at twinnéd face And drew within their twice-twined air; But when I looked, their beauty theived And stole from me my only stare. I still did not scream, t'would offend their ears For still I longed to sing their praise; But retract I did my scorchéd tongue, Their searing heat my one malaise. Bereft of sight and tongue and hand I stumbled down the mountain high And left the flaming twins in sync To circle 'round their lofty sky. And so deprived of senses three I still will strive to speak my love With pictures etched into the sand As twins smile down from up above. But never will I see the sand For blinded speech can't ever touch Nor kiss nor hold ethereal twins, Though at such thoughts I still do blush.
