The year was 1976 the weather outside was cold. My mom was in the hospital I was only 6 years old. You told me we were going, to see her late that day. You said that only knowing, you had planned it just that way. You said we had to make a stop, at your friends house before we went. I didn't know you smoked pot, at least not until then. You sat there playing cards, and then you placed your bet. The words you said hit hard, I never will forget. I'll bet my little one, this hand is surely mine. When the hand was done, you said, I'm sure to win next time. As each of them took their turn, my cries you didn't hear. My soul began to burn, and you drank another beer. You told me you would kill me, if I ever said a thing. Why couldn't you let me be? Am I your puppet on a string? The fear you put in me, is still there to this day. I wish I could see, to face another day. I don't know if I can forgive you, the pain just goes so deep. If you were to die today, for you I couldn't weep. So as I try to deal, with the hand that I was dealt. It just seems so unreal, you could careless how I felt. Children are indeed the clay which parent potters form...this was a vivid portrayal of a so sad scenario. I think you are dealing with it well-facing it head-on.Takes courage. PAL ------------------ |
