Fearing Love He still gives me that look of regret As if he did something wrong Oh how I curse the day we met Has it been that long A year I think, or that's what I believe September fifth was the day And no matter what, I will always grieve At all the words I couldn't say But I wouldn't listen when he tried to speak For the fear of that certain word Because I knew to me it would pique If "I love you" was what I heard Don't get me wrong, I loved him so I just had a fear of getting my heart destroyed And if I could, I would let him know He's the one I always enjoyed This is a poem I wrote after I broke up with a guy I was falling in love with. I had a fear of us falling for each other so I broke up with him. For a while e was convinced that he had done something wrong. I never did explain to him why I broke up with him. I just told him that he did nothing wrong. Well, please tell me what you think. |

Well done Lyn, loved the poem. Withholding feelings or sharing them sometimes goes wrong for all of us. I have two classic examples myself... I send (HUGS) you way, for I know occasionally the loss or mistakes still rear their heads and worry you. ------------------ A hero is a man who does what he can. ~Isis~ (The Fragile Rose) |

How well I understand this fear! I think the man I've loved the most is the one I failed to tell. I wrote a similar poem a while back (Free Fall), it's in Open Poetry 1 if you can get into it. Falling in love is a very scary thing. You know what they say: fools rush in where angels fear to tread. Now that you've faced your fear, would it be possible to get back together with this man and tell him what happened? ------------------ Work like you don't need the money, love like it's never going to hurt, dance like nobody's watching. The bitterest tears shed are those of regret ------------------ Some people come into our lives and quickly go. Some stay for awhile and leave footprints in our heart and we are never ever the same. Thank you all for leaving footprints!! |
