I hear without hearing.
I speak without speaking.
In silence, I live.

My eyes are my ears;
my ears are blind.
Brighter is louder;
darkness is silence.

Cover my mouth,
I can still shout.
Cover my ears,
I can still hear.
Cover my hands,
I am mute.
Cover my eyes,
I am Deaf.

My nephew is in his mid 20's - congenitally profound - highly intelligent but nonverbal as he's never heard sound - and a truly gifted artist....
