If it should be that I grow weak
And pain should stop me from my sleep
Then you must do what must be done
For this last battle can't be won.

You will be sad, I understand
Don't let your grief then stay your hand
For this day more than all the rest
Your love for me must stand the test.

We've had so many happy years
What is to come can hold no fears
You'd not want me to suffer so
The time has come, please let me go.

Take me where my needs they'll tend
And please stay with me until the end
Hold me close and speak to me
Until my eyes no longer see.

I know in time that you will see
The kindness that you do for me
Although my mind has had it's last thought
From pain and suffering I've now been brought.

Please do not grieve it must be you
Who has this painful thing to do
We've been so close we two these years
Don't let your heart hold back the tears..

Thanks, I actually wrote this for my cat, Kara, when she was suffering from kidney failure...she was 23 and had been with me since a few months old...it may sound strange but we were really close and on the day I made the decision, she was almost lifeless...I cried all the way to the surgery and as we left the car and walked the sort distance, she perked up, acted like a normal cat...curious, alert...it was as though she was saying, "don't do this mum"...but the vet said it was right...one of the saddest moments of my life...

It's always such a hard decision, in some little way it's scary to have the power of God. I've hated having to put my animals down too, but the end to their suffering is the greatest gift we can give them..

Isis: I agree, it was extremely sad but likewise I knew it was an end to her pain, but I guess sometimes you try to kid yourself that they'll be ok when really you know in your heart that they won't be...

Rainbow,
This is a very beautiful piece of poetry, Just today I lost my "baby", Smudge who I had rescued when he was 5 days old... Two weeks ago he started to have seizures and he wasn't getting any better... He went to heaven today while lying in my arms...
Smudge- July 1,1999 till Sept. 20,1999
May he rest in piece in the arms of god for he was the sweetest of kittens... My heart has broken 100 times over today......

Hello rainbow!! Your piece touched my heart as well as My dear friend and her beautiful daughter Morgan.Today we had to comfort Smugde the kitten as his soul was passing from this world to another. He was but a wee little kitten
With the hopes of beoming my kitten, with an all
pure white coat with a bit of black just smudging his head .
