I am having such a great time with my new-found poems from my Nana....

THE MORNING DOVE
by Velma M. Carlson (1903-1996)

I sat alone but it wasn't long
When a morning dove came by.
He perched on a post quite near to me
And looked me straight in the eye.
He seemed to sense that I was alone, that
I was lonely too...
He just sat there as if to say, "Someone cares -
I do."
He cocked his head and blinked his eyes
As cute as he could be.
He flapped his wings and then took off,
But was looking back at me.
It wasn't long and he was back -
Just basking in the sun.
He saw his mate and they took off
As soon as she said "Come".
I sat alone and watched them go -
They were as happy as could be.
He had taken the time to rest awhile
And sing a song for me.

~ 1990 ~

Another buried treasure! Very uplifting, Nan, glad that you have found your Nana's poems-I will say this is one of my favorites, out of all the masterpieces at this site.

Thank you.

One word comes to mind and that is "precious."

Absolutely beautiful. How much did you grandmother write? Hope to see more. Wonderful.
