Life is a matter of perspective. Let me take you on a journey into another perspective…the perspective of the wolf… The morning air is crisp, as it should be. A stiff wind rises from the north, making it even colder. Leading the pack out for the hunt, there is great space between the members of the pack. Periodically, you give a howl to show where you are. Upon your call, all members of the pack reply in the same manner. You find a herd of musk oxen, and call your pack. This will be the kill. Singling out a sickly ox, the pack surrounds the herd. On your advancement, the attack begins. You go for the target, as the others swarm the rest of the oxen. The oxen fight and kick, as they panic in the ambush. You and another separate the sickly ox from the rest of the oxen. Attacking from both sides, its neck is crushed by your powerful jaws. The ox struggles, and falls lifelessly to the ground. The kill has been made, but not without it’s price. You see one of your own lying on the ground, lifeless, mortally wounded, the result of a hoof to the skull. The pack’s heart weighs heavily, even in the joy of the kill. As the alpha, you claim first rights to the kill. After eating your fill, the rest of the pack takes it turn. Daylight is fading quickly, and it is time to return to the den. Gathering the remains of the ox, you lead your pack back to the den. As the moon rises, your pack lets out a howl with a heavy heart. You know that you are fortunate to life to see another day. The hunt was successful, but it could have easily been you that was killed. You survived this day, will you be so fortunate tomorrow? Only time will tell. |

Also interesting from here. I never thought that perhaps the animals would consider the future. I have always had the impression that they live in the moment, allowing the next to come as it will. ![]() |

That's an interesting idea, Christopher. I don't know if animals consider the future, but I guess we'll never know, will we? |
