Going Past Lessons Learned (Holocaust Thoughts) Its hard to believe that it wasn't that long ago when the Jews experienced the pain and suffering of the Holocaust in Germany in 1933-1945 Germany; yet we are reminded even today when we become aware that many of the survivors of the Holocaust are still alive today and many are still suffering the effects. I was recently reading a Jewish magazine and was impressed by Rabbi Yechiel Eckstein's writing on this subject, where he wrote "Beyond the Lesson"..."Most certainly, it is critical to remember the Holocaust and learn its lessons." the Rabbi said. "Yet sadly, we have only been memiorializing those people who perished while ignoring the plight of the hundreds of thousands of Holocaust survivors who today are living in wretched poverty." "WE must equally focus on helping the remaining Holocaust survivors achieve a measure of dignity in their twilight years."... from Shoresh, the Root, Vol 22-No. 6, June 2016, International Fellowship of Christians and Jews. This is not only about lessons learned, it is about acknowledging and helping those still alive today. JamesLee 6/23/16 |
