Breeding Lazy People

Why do I want to work if you'll pay me for 99 weeks
not to work?  Everybody knows that there are jobs
available at Walmart and K-Mart and McDonalds and
Burger King, jobs waiting to be had, jobs for the
taking, at the above mentioned and many other
places that pay minimum wages or the equivalent of
unemployment.  Many lazy people would gladly take a
free handout rather than face the hassle of
reporting to work, and spending gas and giving up
their time and energy, only to make the same amount
that unemployment pays.

So this would all be fine and dandy if it wasn't
breeding a generation of lazy people, who with the
blessings of our government are discovering that
they prefer a free handout or should I say the vice
of slothfulness to the virtue of work.  With ninety
nine weeks away from work comes a sense of
entitlement, an attitude driven to desperation,
a feeling of hopefulness, none of these to the
benefit of the unemployed worker or our society.

I propose that at the 27 week period, when the
payment of unemployment transfers from local
government to federal government, that new rules
kick in, that there will be a stipulation that the
unemployed will be required to report to a work
site or a training site inorder to continue to
receive unemployment wages or welfare.   I propose
that there be a requirement to "Work for Welfare"
or unemployment wages or whatever should be its
proper designation.  At that point the worker will
no longer be considered unemployed, they will be
considered "UnderEmployed" as they will be
busy "Performing Public Service or Training"
From that day forth the government will no longer
be breeding lazy people, they will be the "Employer
of Last Resort."

James, first try being unemployed and in your 60's and having to apply for jobs weekly (and told they are not hiring over and over again) in order to continue getting your unemployment...and  after working almost 50 years paying into unemployment etc...to know that they are hiring the young adults and teenagers for those jobs first...then talk to me about being lazy.

If you aren't technology trained in this country there are very few physicallt trained jobs to get. They have done away with manufacturing by  sending it all over seas. They have ruined the home building business by giving out the loans that shouldn't have been and causing all the foreclosures and glut of homes on the market now. ( My husband is in construction..and the only companies getting those stimulus jobs were city and govt contractors, not the average middle or may I now say below middle income workers).

The government has made the mistake of paying off and helping all those banks and wall street when they should have (in my opinion) have given the money to each and every American citizen who has worked and paid taxes in whatever amount... thus every one would have had the money to pay their bills and mortgages, the banks would be getting their money,  companies would have kept their workers and not have to go bankrupt and no one would have lost anything except maybe Wall Street...who in my opinion deserved to lose their jobs instead of being rewarded with huge bonuses and raises
(supposedly because they are the cream of the crop and wall street doesn't want to lose them...yet they helped cause this mess as did the government.

Unless you are in those unemployed or my husband's shoes don't condemn every unemployed person as lazy.

M
besides, the "breeding a generation of lazy people" started at least a generation or two ago paying out welfare...to those who never even worked a day in their lives.

Thanks for responding nakdthoughts...Sorry if your family has been affected personally, as many families have, due in part to major corporations like Walmart forcing American manufacturing plants to relocate to China to enable them to receive a cheaper product from their supplier, and in turn offer us cheaper prices...I think the causes for such a high unemployment rate need to be examined and identified.   Concerning lazy people, not knowing individual situations or circumstances, I am not saying anyone is lazy, what I am saying is government policys and corporate greed seem to be more efficient in breeding lazy or should I say unemployed people than employing American workers...James
