She told me today, in a phone call, her voice was calm with no hint of what was to come...she merely stated, “I have some bad news to share with you”... I have breast cancer” she said, “I go to the surgeon tomorrow”... I held my breath, I couldn’t comprehend what I was hearing.... “at first I thought she was kidding, how could my best friend play such a trick on me, so I asked her again what she said.. but now there was a quietness on the other end of the phone...no, no, no, it can’t be true, it can’t be.  “yes, it’s true” she said and again the quietness took over.  I hung up the phone in disbelief, how could this be, how could this happen to her, why her, my thoughts were all over the place, random, incohesive and yet it wasn’t going to make a difference, my best friend has cancer.

Be kind at heart....for everyone you meet has their own battle to fight.........

My prayers for Jane and for you.  God has already blessed Jane with a wonderful best friend on whom she can lean all her weight.  I thank God for that.  Now, we Pipsters, are there for you.  So lean away on us.  I am glad that you let us know.  If you hadn't, we wouldn't have known.

Hugs and prayers

Roniece,

My friend -

As you well know one of my most dear friends recently died of pancreatic cancer.  I pray that is not the outcome for your friend, Jane - and I am encouraged by the thought of the advances made in treating breast cancer.

You, my friend, must remember that I am here for you as you were for me.  I am an email away - an IM away - a moment away.  I am here for you.

I love you,
Ali

Is this meant to be dialogue?:

I held my breath, I couldn’t comprehend what I was hearing.... “at first I thought she was kidding[....]

I'm sure it's an innocent typo.

Anyway, I thought you made this piece a tad short.  Maybe I'm too tired, but the emotional impact isn't registering.  The speaker in this piece should be a bit more traumatized or else perhaps convey her disbelief in more ways than merely by telling us she can't believe what she's hearing.

Anyway, thanks for posting here.

Life's short.  Think hard!

I hope your friend is able to win this battle against so deadly an opponent. Knowing the advances in medicine, I know there's a chance, so never give up hope.
