The morning light trickling through the window nudges my eyes open for the first time this morning. The birds' are chattering outside; their voices calling me out of bed with songs of productivity. Groggily, I take my first cup of coffee outside to the front porch, where I have a better seat to enjoy Nature's symphony, and time to wake myself before begrudgingly beginning my duties. The air is warm and the sun is bright. It takes a moment for my eyes to adjust and the cloud to be lifted from my perspective; but when they do, they are flooded with brilliant colors and movement; life in full force all around me. Birds are gathering food, while cats sit and watch patiently. Bugs hop from grassblade to grassblade; scurrying in and out of the shadows to avoid being spotted by the birds... The breeze gently picks up... tending to its duty to spread dandylion seeds. The flowers begin to open, thanking the sun for it's gift of life; spreading a sweet, lingering fragrance that calls the bees and the butterflies to breakfast. And here I am--still trying to find motivation in a coffee cup. And that's when I realize what it means to be "human." |
