Almost Solo

By Larry Chadwick
For Martie

We were riding alone together. It was not the first time but today it was the best time. When the day began I was planning my ride for the memories. After all it is hard for anyone to imagine being better than that. Having someone behind you on a motorcycle is not the same as riding with them in your heart.

And so on this anniversary day of loss I have found a gift most unexpected. Riding the winding rode into the old stagecoach stop did not only remind me of cowboys and indians with their monumental losses but my personal grief too. Making peace with our past is not easy but brings surprising benefits. So I enjoyed sharing my ride alone today.

If tears could build a stairway and memories a lane,
I'd walk right up to heaven and bring you home again.

Very touching and oh so true. For in your heart they reside day to day, not just on a special one. mom

I know that I have probably played this theme into the ground but I wrote this while I sat at the "stage coach" restaurant alone and reflected on our visit four years earlier. My soul aches for that chance again.

Kacy,
And yet... alone. You are a kind sis, don't ever stop.

Clang,
Wecome to passions! I hope you like it here half as much as I do. And thank you.

Karilea,
Well... and you.

Martie,
What a dear friend and in such a critical time. Thank you for reaching out when you are in recovery. I think of you so often and now I long to see what you have to share.

mom,
Bless you, always.

If tears could build a stairway and memories a lane,
I'd walk right up to heaven and bring you home again.
