A wisp of exhaust...telling briefly of
goodbye, unheard,   unseen by both as
tail lamps spoke of the corner’s stop.

If only he had moved, just seconds earlier,
had shown the courage to face the years
between them.

Years that had been somewhat harsh upon
him, ever unsure of his next step forward
into parts unknown...he bore his fears
heavily.

Fear which gripped a kind heart, keeping
hesitance always near, staring back into
eyes of kindness...caring eyes...

He knew he must not falter this one moment
of his life.  Yet, even knowing this, his
grip upon the envelope tightened ever slightly
as he fought the demons to simply just open,
just read what he feared most....that which he
could not control...

Glancing toward the mantle...where memories
lay openly for prying eyes to glimpse a piece
of his history, past destinies...a small picture,
somewhat weathered and having only the
colors of day and night to bring into contrast
the beauty of a small piece of a man’s soul...
As a boy...

Two children, puppy love was said to be....
Standing awkwardly before a cake...for they
shared one common bond...being minutes
apart in age..

One might have thought them twins, were it
not for two sets of doting parents scattered
in separate states....Some say fate drew them
together...others scoffed...laughed...what
silliness could....

Shuddering back into reality, the dampness of
nerves soggy upon the envelope...he knew
time had come....Ever carefully opening the
seal, exposing fine paper, a glimpse of delicate
cursive script...his heart racing madly....tearing
at his will...

Unfolding the letter, noticing a postmark of
two decades past....and a single picture of
two children...his heart raced madly...almost
swooning into a faint...Could this be?

Fabulous!!
Fabulous!!
Fabulous!!

How I would love to be able to
tell stories like this.

But since I can't, thankfully, you can and I get the pleasure of reading them!

A definite keeper, Pts. 1 and 2.
