Assignments From My Daughter #5
By Larry Chadwick

L.L. Bean wasn’t really her style. But then again that hat. She had to have that hat. It would work so perfect with her classroom. So she sat down at her computer and proceeded to write a whole sequence of topic titles. Relying on her kindergarten experience she got her scissors out and separated each title into a single paper strip. When they were folded in half they went into her hat. And the hat went to her high school English classroom. It would do her juniors and seniors good to write impromptu papers on random topics.

Assignment #5 “Keeping Peace”:

I remember when Ginger was seven. Her brother had a landscaping business which kept him in a steady cash flow. Even from adulthood he recalls himself being wealthy compared to his friends. So it was no surprise to me when he recalled that he routinely bought a half gallon of ice cream after school to share with his friends. And the evidence had to be gone before mom got home.

But he wasn’t prepared for Ginger. You would think a brother would know how to handle his sister. I never had one but that is what I think. But he wasn’t prepared for Ginger. When she came home he made no attempt to offer her any ice cream. For an exceptional student he was not much of a strategist. Recognizing his weak bargaining position Ginger demanded ice cream in exchange for not telling mom.

Mom got home and the evidence was long gone. Ginger was not. In spite of her large bowl of ice cream she reported the incident to her mother. What he thought would assure him peace, did not. The world is a lot like that.

haha, i think kids have God-given rights to be sneaky telltales...i can see myself in this prose...i was a lot like that too...i remember one incident when i complained to my teacher that my classmate was eating a sweet in class and how the latter was so disgusted with me afterwards

i might have gotten a sweet from her also and shudders! I was 13...

enjoyed

LOL, you changed the title of your assignment..and "Where My Money Goes" would be fairly appropriate for this prose too..

Hey kaile,
That's because I already did that assignment and didn't change the template. Oops! I can't get anything past you...LOL.

Rhonda,
Thank you. How come...your response seems to fit you so well. I love that you have that in common with my daughter. Spunk, can't beat it!
