My Kind of Wealth
By Larry Chadwick

I assumed it fairly early on. Not because of how I was raised. There just wasn’t much doubt about it in my mind. After all, it couldn’t be that hard. It was probably the first significant assumption of my life. But I really did believe that I would acquire wealth.

Now it certainly wasn’t my first mistake. And life has proven it wasn’t to be my last. But as errors go it was hard to be much more wrong. So I resigned myself to my lack of wealth. It even seemed pointless to participate in the lottery. Besides Grandpa was a gambler and not a good one. Additional evidence that I wasn’t meant to be wealthy.

Have you ever noticed how some people collect special things. They say that it was accidental. My mom collects frogs. It just kind of happened. Odd it seems. But then again… I have done something similar. And come to think of it I may not have been wrong after all.

Why would it take adversity for me to see the obvious? My daughter died and ten weeks later we buried my father. If ever I wondered about friendships adversity like this answered any questions. It turns out that I am much wealthier than I ever dreamed.

I do so love your perspective...you always find the ray of gold in the dark cloud.
There is much to be learned from your example.

Trees are poems that the earth writes upon the sky.
We fell them down and turn them into paper that
we may record our emptiness.

Such assets as Friendships, Love, Hope, Courage, Integrity,Honesty, Faith and Overcoming far outweigh any monetary gains and wipe out the liabilities on the Balance Sheet of Life. How lucky that in spite of all you can envision this - and how lucky for us that you can gently nudge us into awareness in spite of your pain.

JM,
Look who's talking! *s* You are a dear. And thank you so much for being there.

SPIRIT,
You are so right about the balance sheet of life. And thank you for your kind words.

You possess the wisdom I only dream of, and I admire you for it greatly. Thank you.

Larry, you think we are getting old?  Wealth seems to have a different meaning to me now too than what it used to.  I really enjoyed the read and your wisdom too.

Her Royal Empress (Kielo),
You will, I am sad to say, you will. And thank you for such kind and generous words.

Sharon,
Say it isn't so. Well, on second thought, the alternatives are worse. Okay you win. And thank you sweet friend.

Nice story Larry.  If I had money and I don't, I would gladly give it up for some of the people and happiness I have lost.  But I am wealthier than many for the same reasons you list.  Joyce

Joyce,
And a much better choice it is indeed. And thank you.

Larry,
Indeed. Funny thing is, I always think I have internalised this lesson and am a step closer to being down-to-earth, until the next adversity strikes and I realise that I didn't retain anything at all

I guess this failing creature will keep trying

kaile,
Surprise...we all learn the hard way. Again and again. So courage and peace to you.
