I’m sure you’ve felt it,
The amazement of how quickly another year has gone
All its yesterdays aimlessly drifting on the ocean of time
Forever there marooned but for their memory

When a child, the present day was all that mattered
We would play till dark and run forever
Those days have passed, but still their memories are mine

Life goes on, reliant on the continuum of days and nights
We awaken to a morning and sleep with a night
Living a humdrum and predictable existence
Each day of joy remembered
But another yesterday takes its place, as another instance takes the joy
Each minute, each hour, each day, our rival

We may venture a night without sleep
But yesterday and the new day will pass on bye
Pass, as the minute and hour hands on the grandfather clock do
With precision and flawless reliability
Both present and past, meeting on the dimensional plain of time

Yesterday,
From yesterday we take our comparisons
Our histories and our experiences
If our minds were erased of those times and memories
Yesterdays would not exist or have a meaning

Each day goes quicker than the day before
Is it the aging of our minds that distort time and its period length?
Is someone taking mercy on us all, freeing our minds from torture?
Making us think that years are moving quicker than they are
Moving us closer and closer to our goals

Yesterday oh yesterday,
My childhood of growing
Wondrous times which took forever to come
Friends which now I hardly remember
No responsibilities and a lunch-box filled with time
They were the days, they were my yesterdays

I enjoyed your verse but this is the prose forum. You should consider consulting a mod. from this forum and have it moved to a poetry forum.

I don't exactly know anything about prose but I do know it's a good poem.

I don't know if today is a good day, or if yesterday was, or if tomorrow will be, but I'd like to think so.

Hi Rick
I have always had a sneaking suspicion that I was a writer of prose more than poetry...& now I am thinking you can do both....think about it....
Rick
'Each day of joy remembered"...."But another yesterday takes it's place"

ain't life good??
love Lynda
