In an old "Big Valley" episode, Adam West played the part of a Union Army captain who was courting Audra. He quoted her several lines from a captivating poem and scored major points with her I must add. All that I remember is that the last couple of lines were something like: "even the loneliest of rivers finds its way to sea". Can someone please tell me who wrote this poem? Please excuse me, I was in the 7th grade when I saw this over 25 years ago. I deeply appreciate anyone's help on this. Thank you. - Kane

kanewjohnson-
I did a little searching, and the best that
I could come up with was this
About half way down the page, there is a
reference to the quote you've mentioned.
Apparently, it was taken from a book called,
"The Annals of the Heechee", and it was
written by Frederik Pohl.
I hope that helps.

you have not truly met the poet.

Ack.  I looked up Annals of the Heechee which appears to have been published on or around 1988.  The Big Valley series was long before that.

Hmmmm...you're right, Sunshine.
That hadn't even dawned on me.
See what happens when I try to do this
stuff in the wee hours of the morning?
So...NOW, I have no idea what to tell you
about the poem/quote.  Ugh.

Okay, I did a little MORE searching, and
I THINK this might be what you're looking for.
I hope so.

AND...1866 is DEFINITELY pre-Big Valley. LOL

Thank you Vicki!!! I have been trying to solve this one since about 1976. The time period is perfect because it was supposed to be post Civil War. This is the poem! You are very good!
