OK, so call me a bit slow, but I'm just now gaining interest in "types" of poetry. My question? Is there a difference between Haiku's and Senryu's? ~Sheri |

Hi there, Irie~ I am also fascinated in the Japanese poetry forms of Haiku and Senryu. The way I understand it is that Haiku describes a specific topic or event in nature and Senryu covers other topics. Examples - *Haiku - 5-7-5 syllabic count format Wind rocks bough of oak Nestled nest of squirrels sway Frisky critters sleep *Senryu - 5-7-5 syllabic count format Fire of heart's desire Burns down deep within my soul Not a false alarm Hope this helps. They are intriguing little pieces of word magic that are fun to do and easy to get hooked on. E-mail me if you'd like some links to go to and I will look them up and send them tomorrow. I know that Nan could help you also. ~*Marge*~ ~*The pen of the poet never runs out of ink, as long as we breathe.*~ noles1@totcon.com |

Thank you both so much for taking the tie to respond. It all makes sense to me now! And I enjoyed reading your examples. ~Sheri |
