so my poem got removed from pip in the dark poetry section. but it didn't specifically say "cutting myself". it was more metaphorically. so what's the big deal? and dark poetry IS rated PG for a reason. so why was it removed specifially?? |

because it went against the posted guidelines. The ones you agreed to, when joining. They can be found here, /pip/guidelines/rules.html look them over. Cutting is considered harm to a person. I hope that helps |

First, the PG rating is irrelevant. All of our ratings reflect suggested maturity, not gradients of right and wrong. Poetry that condones or glorifies harm to a human being is going to be pulled no matter where you post it. Second, if you really believe that specifically saying something is the only way to condone or glorify harm to a human, I think you need to go back to Poetry 101. It doesn't matter whether your point is real, fictional, or metaphorical, your point must nonetheless be expressed responsibly. Portraying an act without also addressing the consequences of that act is neither responsible nor acceptable. Our Guidelines are pretty specific about that, I think. Look at it this way: If your poem had advocated sticking a knife in your neighbor's chest, would you still wonder why it was pulled? |

Thank you for asking, and now for giving the whole of our newest PiP members who join us another avenue to look to, such as this post, as to why we should look to the simple rules and guidelines posted by our host, as to what is acceptable, and what will not be tolerated. We look forward to the time when all of our newest poets will really read all of our hosts' guidelines, and put all of the moderators out of a really cool volunteer position! Still, if you ever have any questions as to what may or may not be acceptable, please do not hesitate to contact our moderators because that is what we try to do - help all of you decide whether or not it can be posted, and then whether or not it should go into the forum you think it should go into, based on its appropriate subject matter. Ron has gone to a lot of work over the years to make this what I would consider to be the Utopia of Poetry Sites...and while there will never be an exact Utopia of anything...this one comes pretty darn close! Thanks! |
