Now, I'm posting this here, since my questions I just can't figure out the answer for. Which is this:
I understand that just about anyone of age can run for the Presidency. But aren't governors, senators and representatives still on the job? And if they are still on the job, yanno, representing the people who elected them, shouldn't they be doing that instead of running for President? I've been doing online searches for several days, and can't quite find any laws regarding 'active civil duty' and campaigning for a different civil position. I know it's in the Constitution that an elected official cannot hold a concurrent elected post, but shouldn't that also apply to people who are currently on the job?

The secondary question is this: If they lose the Presidential bid while still working another job, are they allowed to return to the job they abandoned to seek another post?

To the first question?  They have staff manning their offices.

To the second question?  Yes, I believe they can, and DO, return to their jobs.

Didn't Bob Dole?

And I believe Lieberman was running for reelection to the senate at the same time he ran for vice president. Guess he wasn't too confident of winning.

The whole thing seems almost dishonest, doesn't it? But then the president has to run for reelection while he is still in office too.

Good points. Does raise the question of who gets paid, but I'm sure the political system has that covered. Funny thing is...isn't Congress in Session right now?

Actually, Bob Dole retired from the Senior Senator from Kansas position before he threw his hat into the presidential arena.

Cause in my dreams it's always there
The evil face that twists my mind
And brings me to despair.

Technically....Dole was running for the presidency in April of '96.  I believe his campaign started the previous August, of '95.  His last day as a Senator was June 11, '96, after four decades.
