Another one just for fun Farewell to Poetry I’m burned-out on Browning And cross with Pope, I’ve grown ever chilly to Frost; A Longfellow used to be welcome at night, But now I tell Johnson get lost. So I’m shakin’ off Shakespeare -- I’m done with Donne -- I ain’t buyin’ Byron no more; I won’t lift a pinky to read Robert Pinsky, And Edgar A. Poe? Nevermore. |

Cute, jenni, I loved it! Can I relate? Yes, I can, but give up. I think not. |

I really liked this, its a great idea. Here are a few suggestions, that i thought might help Shorten the line: "I ain't buyin' Byron no more" To just "I ain't buyin' Byron" And the last line with Edgar A. Poe could be a bit tighter. I don't know if this works, its only a suggestion, And Finally to Edgar A. Poe? I just say no. I don't know, if it will work, but thought i would offer some suggestions. Anyway, i liked the poem, it was cool. |

i love the last line, perhaps because it's irony runs a little deeper than the rest, being a joke from one of his famous works rather than a play on words with his name... i think it's the perfect way to conclude a clever little diddy like this one... sincerely, **jerome the boy with no brain |

Jenni The perfect antidote to the Great Iambic Debate (btw "go for it Jen" .. I definitely sense you've got him on the ropes gasping ). I laughed at each and every line and agree with pk about the last line. My favourite though was 4th line of the first stanza .. you feisty lady you .... can't wait to return to the fray .. Philip |

Jenni: I really enjoyed this (see you were wrong about that!). I particularly liked the cross/Pope, Longfellow/Johnson and Poe/Nevermore wit. Quite clever. The only line that I didn't like was "chilly with Frost". Too obvious. Jim likes obscurity. Patch: "Nevermore" is from Poe's "Raven". Philip: I know I never had a chance against the great Jenni. But, hey, even Rocky got a chance at a sequel, right? "Yo, Adrian!" Jenni (again): Great job on this.< !signature--> Jim "If I rest, I rust." - Martin Luther [This message has been edited by jbouder (edited 01-14-2000).] |

Wonderful Jenni. I wouldn't change a word in it, particularly that last line (but I'm a hopeless Poe fan, even memorized The Raven back in high school, guess I spent too much time in detention ). < !signature--> Pete [This message has been edited by Not A Poet (edited 01-14-2000).] |

Excellent Fun! Oh and I do know this feeling...So well I agree about the Frost line being too transparent, but its a great poem, well delivered. Til Again, ~haze |

I loved it! Very funny. I can definiely relate to an overdose on poetry (especially if it is forced on you like in a class)! Too much of a good thing is still too much. I agree that the Frost line is obvious but I don't think it makes it any less good, I would keep it. |
