‘Everybody jaws about Shakespeare,’ says Barry Beerbelly, ‘but does anybody really read and relish the old man or is it all just jabber like I strongly suspect?’ ‘Shakespeare’s plays are actually what I commonly refer to as page-turners,’ says Larry Lunchpail. ‘I ought to know I’ve turned many a page in many a Shakespeare play. Damn fine read you may rest assured.’ ‘Takes a good grip on you, you say?’ says Barry. ‘Draws me in despite myself,’ says Larry. ‘Though I go willingly. The man was a master of human performance. He voiced the English language to the utmost, satisfied drama. Was fluent as hell in love, treachery, madness, and murder. His sonnets replenish romance and demise in majesty.’ ‘Sounds like a regular guy to me,’ says Barry. ‘Unabashedly so,’ says Larry. ‘Many aspire but few compare to the grand old man of the globe theater.’ ‘There’s a pencil and paper,’ says Barry. ‘Aspire and compare yourself.’ Larry and Barry laugh and make merry. |

I think that this is cute, it flows well- some of the dialogue is a little unbelieveable, but I didn't really mind since this is a pretty playful poem... I like the alliteration and rhyme, but my only question is this? Why the line breaks? I think they are mostly awkward and unnecessarry, and this would just read better in a more prosey structure. You are more than the sum of what you consume |
