As I lay here in the night, bed warm and pillow soft to my face,
Memories come and take me back, back to some childhood place.
I see my Mothers smiling face, she is lovely to see,
She is young, and her face is filled with love, as she looks at me.

A tall man comes into view, who else but my Dad, how grand he looks,
Isee him as he teaches me things, things not learned from books.
His leathery face has its usual grin as he looks at me, his hat pushed back,
Together these two made a home for us, though sometimes it was only a shack.

How these memories fill my heart, I lie and whisper to them in my mind,
They never answer, but their being there must be Gods way of being kind.
Though they have been gone these many years, he knows I can see,
How hard they worked, how much sacrifice, went into moulding me.

Softly they fade into my misty past, they seem to wave as they go,
I hope in their world, they can feel the love for them I know.
I find it hard to leave this place, this place of softness and joy,
But I must go, and as sleep calls I say goodnight, from your little boy.

This has a nice feel to it.  My favorite line was 'I lie and whisper to them in my mind'.  The 'God's way of being kind' line kind of disrupted the flow a little bit because of its relative awkwardness, but....
I enjoyed reading this.

I see your thought, this is why I posted this, and in reading with a critical eye this time,  I could have stayed with the flow. Thank you.
