Self - Destruction By Paul Wilson Climbing the ladder others tried to climb Dreams of reaching the top his only goal Caught a wild ride on a flaming comet At the young age of twenty two I’m told Obsessed with music his one true love Fate and devotion always feeding flame Singing with his demons wanting to die He was always wanting to play the game Voices in his mind kept him wanting more More of the poison that he craved so much Never really able to fight his demons Feeding them every time that he lost touch The world distorted from his point of view Never giving enough to please the crowd Hurting from inside… the pain never stopped Always wanting more than demons allowed A rising star shining brightest of all Feeding the demons within his own mind So much to say so many songs left to sing His music and demons always entwined Unaware a victim of his own demise Voices in his head kept wanting him dead Singing to a different song no one heard Passed away too soon his epitaph read So much to live for… so much to die for The fiery comet he rode lost its flame I remember his words this is the end Voices in his head only himself to blame Copyrighted 3-25-2021 ~~To share my poems with you is to share my heart with you~~ |

Interesting piece, Paul. Immediately had me thinking of Robert Johnson, though we all have our demons and personal fights with them...but even if not more prominent in artists, they do tend to remembered more vividly amongst them. They sad it's better to burn out then fade away. |

Michael...You got the part right about singers I know it could mean one of about a thousand different singers but the one I had in mind was more recent, like in the 70's Rock singer There is one line in the poem that gives him away if you listen to his music. Test time WHO IS IT? Take care and let me know who you think it is...Paul ~~To share my poems with you is to share my heart with you~~ |

Michael...DING...DING...DING You win the jackpot. In your opinion does it sort of fit? I watched a bio of the Doors on AXS Thursday night and got the inspiration to write this...Paul ~~To share my poems with you is to share my heart with you~~ |

John...Never heard of Darby Crash but will look him up. Thanks for reading and playing along Sounds like a new game for us to play we give each other a clue phrase and we have to write a poem using the clue phrase and see if we are right about who it's about...Paul ~~To share my poems with you is to share my heart with you~~ |

James...So glad you enjoyed this and glad you liked Morrison. I used to listen to the music way back when, without really listening to the lyrics, but now I listen to the lyrics and the story they tell more. I guess with old age comes wisdom as they say. Thanks for reading and replying...Paul ~~To share my poems with you is to share my heart with you~~ |

Hey Paul, sorry for not getting back to you on this. Morrison was honestly just before may age of awareness so far as musicians went. My mostly Country music loving parents kept me away from any other kind of music till about '76 or so, and so he was already missing on most of my available stations around here by then. I came to know and love some of his music, espicially "the End" but never looked too deeply into his life. Kind of curious now that I think about it. |
