Night Falls Night falls on the haunted land, An eerie essence close at hand. A whisper there’s something else there, A stirring in the chill, dank air. Some sleight of hand, some twist of fate That tells you you’re content to wait. The feeling leaves you ill-at-ease. The mistrust takes you by degrees. And so you spurn the sage advice, For no, you never could play nice. You take that step, for ruin awaits, And there’s no appeasing the Fates. Your eyes, beholden to the shrine Of something distant and divine, Of choices made, hard to keep track, When mirrors refuse to look back. Blown here and there, ash in the wind, Time lost a handsome dividend. Who can afford to pay such price, With their own life the sacrifice? Till in shrill blackness you awaken To all in life that you’ve forsaken. The hour of death close at hand. Night falls on the haunted land. Michael Anderson 03/03/21 |

hey Paul, wasn't really comfortable with this poem. "Night falls" is so cliché. It's more like Night envelopes us...or maybe that light abandons us altogether. But alas, you see where my mind has been these days. The meaning I used to could pack into a single stanza now takes, and I know the long-winded disgust in that. Anyhow, you owe me a couple of challenge lines, my friend. |

reminds me of a line in a poem I wrote a while back "reflections of who staring back at you ...no doubt we have Angels in our pockets..." |

For some reason this makes the words, "straight into the arms of destruction" come to mind. I think this tapped my soul on it's shoulder. Yes,I'm searching your poems and catching up. ;-) "I know this love will tear me to pieces |
