Fair to middlin' of nowhere

The Devil came early.
He usually waits until 3
before waking me.
Taking me to hell,
he nudges me along
with a poker in my back
just to hear my joints howl.
From jaw to toes
and all points in between,
with gritted teeth scream.
The Devil just laughs
as I scramble
to swallow merciful pills.
Pitiful slow pills
with a side of numbing gel.
And if I sit ever so still,
my body’s yowling
calms to loud grumbling.
and I can begin to breathe
without grunt or groan.
I may even be able to
slip back into the oblivion of sleep
for a bit before
I start my day….
The Devil came early,
giving me hell to pay.

Jimmy such high praise coming from you!
Saw neurologist and he said it wasn't neuropathy it acted autoimmune and I need to see Rheumatologist. Sooner the better, I need some effective pain control!
Take care my friend,

It's funny, or maybe ironic, that the sleep we neglect and forsake all our lives while we plan and plot our way along in life, hoping to secure a better future, is the one thing we simply crave once we get to said future.  I can't sleep enough these days...my escapism.  I know it's even more so that for you, Lori.  Sending ((hugs)).

Lori...I have to say I feel your pain, my wife has chronic pain and takes meds around the clock, we get up at 3 AM every morning so she can take her pain meds.
Stay strong dear lady and get better...Paul

I believe many of us are getting to a stage of relating to this very thing. Once, it was insomnia that kept our over-active brains from falling into slumber; now it's more insufferable aches and pains from some ailment, or disease. Well done, Lori.
