Freedom
By Paul Wilson

Soldiers marching in time
Wearing uniforms proudly
Off to war they go
Fighting for you and me

Boys too young to know
Wanting to do their part
Fighting for their country
Saying goodbye to their sweetheart

Fighting for their country
Ready to take a stand
Doing all they can
Willing to die for their homeland

In towns all around
Widows and loved ones cry
They gather at valley of stones
Saying their final goodbye

Mourning loved ones lost
Faraway in another land
Loved ones left behind
Children don’t understand

Stories told by those that returned
Comfort the lonely left behind
Hoping one day to heal
Their hearts and mind

For those that gave all
Tomorrow will never come
Where sorrow never sleeps
Hero’s they’ve all become

So interesting to see where this phrase took you, Paul.  Wonderful sentiment...and one that I relate to well.  Challenge well met.

Michael...Thanks for poking my muse a little. I could have gone a few other ways with this phrase, and might later. Thanks for reading and your reply...Paul

Sky...Glad you liked that phrase. I have used valley of stones a couple of times referring to a cemetery and the head stones. Thanks so much for reading and your reply...Paul

This one makes me think of how I admire people who had the strength to serve. Recruiters came around when I was in high school and I had zero confidence so I did not join. This flow well as your structured work always does. Apologies for my rambling.
