Bright White Light By Paul Wilson Black tire marks on edge of interstate Make me wonder Tire marks leave shoulder of road Disappearing into into grassy embankment Thoughts running wild through my mind What happened here Alone no one to talk to but myself Was it bad Did someone’s life end here Driving a little further down the road Another set of tire marks Swerve off the road Into a stand of pine trees White cross marks the spot Siren breaks the silence Blue lights light up the night I wonder where they are going Slowing down... thoughts cross Through my mind Why do so many people die On these dark roads we travel Some ones father, mother daughter or son Have gone on to their reward On this dark lonely road tonight Traffic stopped Waiting on the lonely road Raindrops on my windshield Broken glass on the road EMT’s tried to save them But they were too late Phone calls left to be made Paperwork has to be done More lives shattered this night I say a prayer for those Who won’t be home tonight Late one cold rainy night Car leaves the road Everything goes black Something warm trickles down my face No pain just a bright white light from above Lights up my world As my life slowly ends Who will say a prayer for me Will they wonder who made those skid marks on this lonely road Another cross marks the spot Where a life ended much to soon The last thing I remember is a bright white light Tell my loved ones I love them and goodbye Copy Righted 7/9/21 ~~To share my poems with you is to share my heart with you~~ Paul [This message has been edited by Paul Wilson (07-10-2021 08:15 PM).] |

I pass by a white cross on the side of the road, about 3 feet high. I see that, and even though I can't make out the skid marks anymore, I always wondered the who and how of it. One day, at worked, I found out it was the sister of my general foreman who died there. That put a very real impact on the passing and the knowing every day. Made it very more real. After that, I started noticing the skid marks all over that winding mountain road. lots of stories out there, have to hope there were some happier endings. As for you...there are better ways to go my friend. Come sit back on the porch with me, drink some sweet tea and we can discuss them? |

Very true that we may think that something like a road accident may never happen to us...only to the next guy..but the next person could be anyone including observer...your poem expresses that thought well ...Paul. |

Michael...Your reply and story touched my heart. There are so many stories to be told about road accidents and death. I have lost a few friends that way and have wondered why I wasn't one of the unfortunate with some of the crazy things I've done in my life time. As for that glass of tea I would love to one day. I will let you know when I can make it...Paul ~~To share my poems with you is to share my heart with you~~ |

wordwizard...Your words echo mine. We never know when it might happen. I had a very close call a few years back and from that day on I give thanks to God for saving me and the other people that it would have affected, had I not turned my wheel. Thanks for reading and your reply...Paul ~~To share my poems with you is to share my heart with you~~ Paul |
