I remember when I first found out the truth about the heart...
That it wasn’t really shaped like an upside down butt or a woman’s bosom
It only pumps blood and doesn’t keep your love and emotions simmering inside
...it isn’t even pink

I’m pretty sure now that we live in our brains and not inside a pump
Armed with this idea, I went into my mother’s bedroom and asked her;
“Ma, do the sad people all have broken minds doodled into two pieces,
...in a notebook?”

She looked at me for a moment, scratched her head and said;
“Bluesy, my boy...when you fall in love, don’t use a coat hanger,
don’t fold your trousers, and don’t use your hands to remove your shoes
...your father did and look what happened!”

You like to bounce one off the walls once in a while huh? Reminds me of a story one of my ex's was told as a child-Eat your cottage cheese or your babies will be born naked. Of course your poem runs deeper than my memory and is more nuanced. ~L

Sometimes life and loves harsh realities leave a sting...Best to leave off the sugar coating it can give you cavities in the long run Thanks for sharing Bluesy

Ma had that all figured out, Miss Pinky. She kept them soaking on her nightstand in an old Skippy peanut butter jar, right next to her lucky gallstones!
