Ashes and Rain

Ashes and rain
ashes and rain
a windowsill sunrise is all that remains
of the night we set afire
blue eyes and blue skies
let her and I walk the wire
from young and foolish to old and wise
see us smoothly glide down lover's lane
and never mind ashes and rain

C'mon Steam train
c'mon steam train
carry our hopes in fragile picture frames
for the day we long to see
many smiles and many miles
see her and I feel so free
from shy glances to a walk down the aisle
and a cozy little house on lover's lane
and c'mon c'mon steam train

Dreams
they taste so much better
when they're shared
it seems
I found my own true heaven
tangled in your hair
sweet dreams
I can still touch them
when I wake with you

Ashes and rain
ashes and rain
a screen door sunset is all that remains
of the day we stirred the embers
brown eyes and sundown skies
let her and I always remember
from lowest lows to highest highs
the way back home to lover's lane
and stay clear of ashes and rain

A truly great read, Zach. Spectacular imagery throughout your poetry. From the "ashes and rain", these lines lingered with me the most:
