It’s not so bad a gray
anymore.
It’s just a light lingering haze
like a smoke filled room.
After a while you don’t notice
too much.
I still remember what it was like
before.
Back when I hit natural highs
easily.
But I fell into an abyss I couldn’t get out
alone.
So now the deep darkness has gone
to gray.
I go through the motions
of enthusiasm.
Once in a while a breath of fresh air
hits me.
I breathe easy
for a bit.
I miss little things like baking pies,
I dread now.
I let my daughter decorate the tree.
I used to.
I miss that enthusiastic,
young and dumb me.

Like the passing of a torch, so to speak. But, isn't it good to see the young ones pick up where you left off?

The little things we let go of over time... till it becomes a solid monochrome shade of gray. My daughters decorate for the season... it's enought for me and the wife to enjoy. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.

Well Andrew, I never factored in that it might have, in part, something to do with the natural aging process. You may have a valid point. ~L

The closer I get to Christmas the better I feel. I have some enthusiasm! I lack stamina, LOL!
