She might have been seventeen
when she saw the picture
on my desk and asked
who it was.
I told her it was my husband.
I said something about love
and she just rolled her eyes.
I quickly assured her
I wasn’t talking about the
fickle infatuations
they were going through.
I was talking about
that good old fashioned
down home
meat and potatoes
kind of love.
She nodded her head knowingly
and said to me,
You got like what
my grandma and grandpa got.
It made me smile.
Made me think of my own parents
going on for over sixty years together.
I’ve been married nearly forty years,
just not to the same man…
This time I have a love
that’s going to last
me for a lifetime.

Awe lori your heart is showing and its a beautiful thing. Love isn't perfect but it's a many splendored thing....and then some.
