Lumpy oatmeal makes me crazy!

0 posted 2017-10-06 10:22 PM

The river lapped its invitation
against the metal boat side
Lulling me to take a tentative step
into the murky water
My line arched as I cast
to the logs where the Pike hide
Coldness brushed my ankles,
silt tickled between my toes

One small step at a time,
I moved deeper into the slough
trying to entice a fish
to take my shiny new red lure
The sun was beaming down hot;
the sky was, oh so, blue
Murky water kissed my shins, knees,
then my hips and waist

Concentrating hard,
I hadn’t noticed the clouds move in
The song of my line, sang
like music to my longing soul
I was oblivious to rain drops
that began to saturate my skin
Strands of hair plastered
to my cheeks
before I knew I was chilled

No Pike had bitten, but thunder’s voice
was rumbling deeply
I reeled in my line,
then set my pole in the boat with care
My body grew cold as I moved
into the shade of the spruce trees
I trembled as my shirt pressed
wet against me, water dripping

A small campfire crackled cheerfully,
built just to warm me
before a little tilted lean-to
covered with moss and sticks
His arms drew me close
and he began to dance slowly, silently
Holding my wet body close
we moved against each other, alone

Our bodies brushed and teased
that day on the slough
No words broke the whisper
as rain fell among canopied branches
Desire broke the chill within me,
spawning need (as desire will do)
Together, and alone, we danced,
writing a magical memory

Alison,
You never disappoint. And it is a delight to read you again. You are a little like a celebration meal with all the trimmings...You don't happen just everyday, but when you do, you really hit the spot!~L

Ahhh . . . And "a magical memory" it most contently was, I'm thinking. Beautifully rendered. Alison.
