Huddled in the corner, lights out, I shiver and shake, I'm half clad I'm so scared I can't even shout, In the hall there's somebody bad. I'm scrunched in the corner, afraid, Oh, I'm sure that I will go mad; I feel like I have been betrayed, In the hall there's somebody bad. ©March 13, 2017 / Jerry Pat Bolton ~ If they give you ruled paper, write sideways. ~ [This message has been edited by JerryPat2 (08-02-2017 10:16 AM).] |

This reminded me of when I was a small little girl, and how I slept up in the attic. It was scary, with a pull chain light up on the ceiling. So I hooked up a string to the pull chain. When I went to bed, I could safely hide under the covers, and pull the light off, with the string. LOL Afraid of the dark...and what hovered within...lol |

Lee, thank you for your response, and you had enough in it to write a novel. You ought to give it some thought. ~ If they give you ruled paper, write sideways. ~ |

Jerry, could this poem be related to when a person has disassociative identity disorder? And one hand (i.e., personality) doesn't know or remember what the other hand does? As one who enjoys reading psychology topics, that's just my first impression upon reading this poem. An interesting read, nonetheless. |

Cerulean, that is a good take on the inner workings of my poem. I wanted to show how a full grown man could be terrified inside his own house by noises on the outside. You can hang the “disassociative identity disorder” to the poem, because the man is terrified to the extent, that at this point, he very clearly knows not what to do. Thank you, Cerulean. ~ If they give you ruled paper, write sideways. ~ |

Then LeeJ was more accurate in her assessment of your poem than I was. I gotta say, you write some really good poems... and this was definitely one of them. I think it's a survival instinct we all have built in to an extent, as you can see in many kids who need a night light |

Yes, Lee pretty much hit the nail on the head with her response. Thank you for delving into my poem, Cerulean, I very much appreciate it. ~ If they give you ruled paper, write sideways. ~ |

Definitely, anytime Jerry! In this case, it was more of a literal vs figurative thing... I went a bit too far on the figurative side reading your poem. |
