She sits there in her caned rocking chair
Looking out the window with a blank stare
I wonder where she will journey today
As she slips back into time far away

Through the lace curtain and into the past
She finds comfort in memories that last
Days when she was but a carefree young lass
When she'd turn the heads of boys she would pass

I hear her whisper out their names each one
Reminiscing about things they had done
A soft warm smile plays upon her drawn face
As she recalls thoughts that time can't erase

A sparkle ignites in her sullen gaze
As she is whisked into her yesterdays
A place where she finds happiness and peace
Where her failing health and her worries cease

With silent tears I watch as she's set free
I wait for my Mom to come back to me
I cherish each lucid moment we share
Gathering her close in my loving care

I like the title. Very fitting with the picture. Also, sorry about your mom. Parents are difficult to lose. We always want loved ones to remember.

Your words have a gentle flow to them. I'm sure your mom is very proud of you. Thanks for sharing.

I, too, have been diagnosed with Dementia. It is affecting my memory. This was a very special poem.

Pinksea,
My Mom has dementia and when she is not alert she is asleep for the most part. This is a very special poem. I understand that helpless feeling as you watch your Mom slowly slip away. Hugs. ~L

Thank you for reading Jerry ~ I'm so very sorry to hear that. It is not a easy disease to deal with...But none are.  I took care of my Mom while she had it.  I hope you have a loving support group around you. Also they have new medications that can help some ~ I'm not an expert, but if you ever need to talk I am here   Alana

yeah, sorry to heard this, my friend. It's definitely a tough row.  I gather that's a picture of her - Beautiful!

My mom, well, for 80 some years I was her loving son. Suddenly I wasn't anymore . . . and the rest of the story, well, let's just say, you probably know some of that pain.

Heart - mine to you
