"Words Lost" Words lost. The mind once so free To write anything Is now a prisoner of... Logic. Logic that far surpasses Imagination... A sterile machine To quash the soul's Torment... Words now metal Uneasy in flow, except heat Yet still one color... The diametric opposite Of what was. Imagination, LLC So limited, Where future meets present and past But you don't have a choice. Words are selected. Outside parameters not allowed, Imagination is metal, Deal with it. Words will come But it'll confine you. The mind once so free Now fallen, Disconnected from nature, Searching forever... for Words lost. |

Thought provoking work. As writers, words are our toys and tormentors. Good piece. ~L |

interesting & well done write, sounds like one struggling with the other...someone once said, or wrote? Don't ever compromise your identity...for anyone or anything. |

"Words lost." They do come around, but by the time they do, we will have forgotten what we wanted to do with them. "Words!" What would we do without them? . . . What can we do with them? ~ If they give you ruled paper, write sideways. ~ |

Lori, LeeJ, JerryPat2- Thanks, I'm glad you enjoyed this piece. Great feedback, btw. This poem has to do with what can happen after studying dry and mechanical subjects or topics for too long. For example, in college if you specialize in something like one of the hard sciences or scientific writing. The mind becomes akin to a black/white machine, robbed of certain colors of imagination it had before. Your storytelling ability and vocabulary, although enriched in scientific jargon, may become limited in other ways. |

Pleased to meet you too, Alana. It's nice to be welcomed by members such as yourself. Yes, you're correct - use it or lose it. That has a lot to do with what this poem is about. Also, it has a lot to do with my own personal experience. Anyway, I look forward to reading your poems too. |
