Perched high up on a granite hill an old, Crumbling castle looms - but ruins remain, An ancient monument to legends told, Of bravest deeds and glory was domain - But long-abandoned ramparts silent stand; No cries of war nor sighs of courtly love Echo in the vacant yard - though once grand Was knightly banner streaming high above! Now grey headstones succumb to earth and weeds As Time's ever-sculpting hands mould the stone And flesh alike; no reverence for deeds Of Man's design, so unpreserved the bone -- But futile to pine, you transient guest! Shed the tears and seize your singular quest. CG |
