When The Night Comes

Raincoats and rent's due and Roy Orbison records
I'm coasting on weather reports without your love
the stairwell is creaking, the roof is leaking
and I'm an arc of contradictions looking for a dove
I'm tired of sticking my heart back together with glue
when the night comes I'll be wishing for you

Frigidaires and footsteps and sad Fellini flicks
it's a parade of monotony without your grace
worn tires are rolling, my head is swollen
it's a mountain of negotiations to see your face
I'm sick of picking at this old scar of emotional truth
when the night comes I'll be dreaming of you

Oh I swear I'll hang by my nectie on a fish hook moon
just to see you walking backwards on back to bed
there's angels and demons and warfare above my room
as the sharp scent of morning rears its ugly head
day beckons like a tightrope walk into blinding blue
when the night comes I'll be longing for you

Oh I see the lights tonight as I stumble through a tune
words form, words fail, similes fall, metaphors fly
the clockwork of my heart softens as Nat begins to croon
that old Gershwin song you used to sing like a sigh
reality snaps and I fall to my knees, cut cleanly in two
when the night comes I'll be calling for you

Raincoats, rent's due and Roy Orbison records
I'm coasting on weather reports without your love
the stairwell is creaking, the roof is leaking
and I'm an arc of contradictions looking for a dove
I'm tired of sticking my heart back together with glue
when the night comes I'll be wishing for you
and I'll be dreaming of you
yeah I'll be longing for you
night has all but fallen
can't you hear me calling?

In my reverie I feel somehow you are near
when the night comes I'll be waiting for you
to appear

Soul Drifter...Really loved this. You set a mood of a lonely man sitting by a warm fire place sharing a drink with his emotions and thoughts. Thanks for sharing...Paul
