It’s a trail of pleasant memories, A trail of sorrow too- I ride it every evening- When I sit and think of you. As the western sun is sinking- And coyotes start to howl, My spirit becomes restless, And my concious starts to prowl. Like a wolf when he is hungry, My concious starts to delve In every crook and cranny, And sniff at all the shelves- In my mind where I store memories And a pile of vain regrets- Of words and actions hasty, That I cannot soon forget. Of the pain I dealt unto you- And the tears I caused to fall, Your clothes still in the closet, And your picture on the wall. I sit so lost and lonely- Just myself, and all my fears As I wonder what you’re doing I will ride my trail of tears. |
