Open and Empty We talked of love. We sat on the beach, your shoulder pressing mine, your hip, my hip – together, your leg crossing mine, your heart closer to me, than mine to you, and the space between us was vast. Open . . . Empty. We talked of love. Where had it gone, we asked How could it have gotten lost. Could the waves washing over our feet, halfway to our knees have dragged it out to sea . . . A tear ran down your cheek, I caught it with my finger, kissed it, tasted the salt of it's source, knowing it was no longer for me. Leaning forward, I washed it in the sea, letting it go – forever. I cried as I felt you rise, soft footsteps going away - the space between us was vast. Open and Empty.

James...Sad write about leaving and breaking up. I believe the ocean is made from all the tears shed in the name of love...Paul ~~To share my poems with you is to share my heart with you~~ |

Very Poignant write. Been there, done that. More often than I care to admit. |

This one aches in its purity and openness. There is something I manage to find beautiful in this ending, perhaps I have seen too many ending that have lacked the openness, and the willingness to know it's time to let go. Michael |

knowing it was no longer for me. So simple and so truthful. This is the kind of poetry I try to write myself. |

This is a sad scene, but beautifully written. I had a break up on the beach once and it didn't go quite like this. It was way less civil. "I know this love will tear me to pieces |

Hopefully there is some fond memories that can push aside some of that emptiness. Great write! |
