Hard Labor
By Paul Wilson

Pounding rocks all day long
Sentenced to a lifetime of hard labor
Nineteen years old killed a man
Turns out he was my neighbor

Caught him sneaking around my back door
Shot him twice lost his life
He ain’t gonna play that game no more
Fooling around with my wife

Pounding rocks six days a week
Sundays off thanks to the man
Sitting in my cell…living hell
Thinking about my master plan

Gonna break out one day
Just you wait and see
Where I’m going
They will never catch me

I’ll be looking for that woman
That cheated on me
I’ll be wanting to get even
Just you wait and see

Been five years now
Counted every day
Pounding rocks all day long
Hot as hell… hair turning gray

No visitors ever come around
I’m all alone just my pillow and me
Preacher comes around on Sunday
Ain;t no use praying for me

That night from long ago
Comes back to me
Realizing I never pulled the trigger
It was my wife… she thought she shot me

Really liked this, fits well into a Blues
song, or an old country song, & the twist
at the end..cool as could be.

You're on a roll,

Sky~

Sky...Maybe with a lot of work and a blues harmonica player it might work. Thanks for taking time to read and reply. Glad you liked the ending...Paul

Haha...not sure if this is the worst case of mistaken identity I've ever heard of or the best.  Your audience has it right, it'd definitely make for an excellent blues song.  A cheating woman will get you pounding rocks one way or another it seems.

Michael...I had to liven this up at the end, so it wouldn't be so sad. Just did this on a whim. Thanks for indulging me...Paul
