Future,
packed away in boxes
stares.
False flower vines
stuffed beside floating layers.
White ruffles
captured
try reaching from beneath the closing lids
in one last plea
for reconsideration.
She shakes her head,
wipes a fabric cala lily with her fingers.
The color once reminded her of sunsets
and now it stands muted
veiled in dust
the beauty of its purpose
faded with haze of time.
Thin champagne flutes
meant to have hands wrapped
while toasting love
rest comfortably
and she takes one out
tapping it with one fingernail.
Crystal's delicate song
sounds a forlorn call around the room
mourning the loss
of joyful lips
sipping in symbolism.
She continues packing
aware
of the shadow
hanging quietly
corner of the closet
to the left of everyday threads.
A white unaltered dress
a beautiful find.
layers of silky material
to stand ready in.
Will she ever know this again
Or is the day these things decorate
to fade along with hope
becoming permanent guests
of life's jaded categories of thought?
She works silently
wondering if these items
belonging to the lost day
are cursed now
and is she?

"How much is real? So much to question
An epidemic of the mannequins
Contaminating everything"

Stone Sour

Temptress...Really enjoyed this and relived some memories of my own. The memories in packed away boxes live forever I think. Each time they are opened those memories are reborn within your mind, waiting to bring a smile too your face, We all need memories good and bad to remind us of what and who we are. Thanks for sharing...Paul

"The color once reminded her of sunsets

That is a Beautiful line, Jenn, for all its bleakness.  To mute something that does not speak, but that also says every little thing there is to say all at the same time...the death of something precious.  Hope maybe, or belief.  Time has a way of bringing us all here slowly I think.

This is quite possibly one of the saddest things I've ever seen off your pen.  I've always seen the fighter and the survivor side of you...but this is the tender inside we don't get to peak at much.  Hugging you for it, and feeling the ache of it.

Michael
