Fair to middlin' of nowhere

0 posted 2020-08-04 05:35 AM

I waste a lot of time.
Seems as if I’m just sitting around
with something on my mind.
Instead of chasing cobwebs
off my ceiling
and the dust off everywhere,
I choose to snooze.
As I sit with my thoughts turning,
feelings slowly churning,
searching for words
to express them.
I cast a seine into the free flow,
hoping to haul in an idea.
Depending on the catch of the day,
that food for thought
gets digested into black and white.
So all the time I spend idly pondering
fodder for my poems I write
is not wasted.
It is invested in my passion.
The true waste of my time
I have come to find,
is above and beyond
and all up and in between
the other thoughts I get.
All my thoughts that are
filled with regret,
are of no use to me now.
They are of the past.
Impossible to change,
no matter how hard I wish
to go back and rearrange.
The question is how
to lay the regrets to rest.
They belong behind me,
it is for the best to let them go.
The only feelings they hurt
are mine.
Hurting myself is a waste of time.

Lori,

I love this! It describes the pursuit of writing in a powerful way. It reminds me that regret hinders present freedom of the mind.

This is the most beautiful line! The image it creates makes me wish that I could draw!

"I cast a seine into the free flow,
hoping to haul in an idea."

"How much is real? So much to question
An epidemic of the mannequins
Contaminating everything"

My poetry is my own selfish way of bleeding out.  It is pain within me that has to be let go....but once it is, I am responsible for keeping that door shut.  Though I can now read poems from decades ago, I cannot do it without recalling precisely the grief that led to them, or without getting a lump in my throat, so suffice to say I do not look back as often as one might otherwise.  Dangerous waters those are...and only with eyes focused where they need to be, looking forward, can I read from the past appreciatively and without reopening the scar tissue.

Enjoyed the read.  You should see the stack of half-finished poems that never will be finished I have precisely because I got out what I needed to and now, have nothing tying me to the need anymore.

Michael,
I always debate about posting some poems as they may be too personal and unrelateable. I usually what the heck it up the old flag pole.
I'm always surprised at the responses I get.

PS
I got those too,Ii call 'em fragments.

I heard a phrase recently that goes "no time that you enjoy wasting is ever time wasted" Makes me stop to think for every moment that we think we wasted find one thing that we enjoyed about that moment and the moment won't be wasted. Just food for thought!

I've been around, here and there. Seems since I started back to work in August I don't have time for anything. Thanks for wondering about me ~L

Lori,

It's good to see you around here. I know exactly what you mean as far as time and work.
