Fair to middlin' of nowhere

I have butterflies.
Even though
by now you’d  think
they’d be gone.
But they hang on
as flutters of foreboding.
They flit from fear to fear,
never lighting on logic.
Effervescent winged
Worstcase Scenarios
serenely glide by
on thoughts unattended.
Indigo Devil Tails
cluster at my solar plexus.
Butterflies invade uninvited
everytime it is time for you to leave.
Logic and experience dictates
all will be well.
But that does nothing to net
the winged What Ifs
circling my head.
I can feel them arrive
one by one
already.
It is still a week
before you go.
Butterflies...

Winged “what ifs”

Love that image, Lori. What ifs do tend to fly in every direction and not be attainable.  The more you try to contain them, the more they morph into something even worse typically.  Trying to maintain focus on “what is” instead of “what if…” can be one of the hardest things to achieve.  You speak of logic dictating… too often we let our emotions, who always demand instant gratification, skew our logic instead of letting logic conclude its argument and steer our thought process accordingly.  I am one of those guys who has to stop and count to ten when that happens sometimes just to clear my head and restart the thought process focusing only on the “what is”.

Remember you have to sacrifice part of today to worry over tomorrow.  You could be stealing today’s joy, and all for nothing.

I remember the feeling and you describe it perfectly...look to the future and let things take care of themselves...love the way your words flow

I completely agree it is a total waste of time. I have a problem with anxiety, it likes to go off and do its own thing before I know what hit me. So I have learned to ignore a great many "butterflies".Eventually it will subside. ~L

You describe the feeling so well. I love this, Lori!

Temptress,
Thank you so much for your comment. You are right that imagery is one of my strengths, where as I can't do quatrains worth a crud.
I appreciate you! ~L

Sky,
You said the word relateable and that is music to my ears. That is my goal and if I can do more than that then its all gravy from there.
Thank you so very much! ~L
