LOCKDOWN

The word brings a chill down my back
freedoms taken for my own good
Having courage and strength I lack
yet Faith burns internally bright

The Staff show love and tender care
cooking and cleaning constantly
Still vicious eyes evilly stare
with a need to intimidate

No sound of the river flowing
or whisper of wind in the trees
Can’t heal the heart with life stowing
or sooth the mind of dark troubles

We know that HIS will must be done
and that brings peace to heart and soul
As voices join to praise as one
we know inside “this too shall pass”

We hide our feelings with a mask
trusting all those who risk so much
Filled with questions we dare not ask
our words are locked within silence

A smile greets with a hidden frown
as need to flee grows ever strong
Such a fearful word is LOCKDOWN
how much longer can we all endure

“freedoms taken for my own good”

That line jumps out at me.  There is a distinct wrongness to it…what others will do for us, for our own good.  When we lose our freedom to choose, a mind of dark troubles does tend to ensue.

“No sound of the river flowing
or whisper of wind in the trees”

For one has an affinity to nature, a lockdown status would be twice as mind-crippling.

I sense a near desperate clinging to faith here, almost as if the conviction behind it is being brought to question?  “How much longer can we endure?”

The struggle being endured here can be felt as much as read, Karen.  I do hope those doors open up for you.

Welcome...or welcome back.  I think I read in your replies you've been here before?

Thank you, Michael, I am not new but it has been years...the poems fill me again and reading them here is soothing to me...it did feel kind of desperate for the out doors calls to me...now things are getting better and my faith is stronger and renewed...thank you for the reply

Starmcneil, Yes..you've conveyed that over
all feeling well, I feel like a stranger in a strange land..just putting one foot in front
of the other.

Well done Poet

It would seem that we come back to the places this part are familiar to us...

Welcome back, Star...well done.
