Sparkle

The words were there,
For a second I saw them,
Then gone.
I knew I would
Not be getting them back.

The tiniest flicker of inspiration,
How short the pulse lasted.
As poets, we live for that…
Split second.
Everything, in one instant,
Suddenly seen so clear.
Captured,
Like a Polaroid.

Never, have I had something
To compare this sensation to.
Till today.

There it was,
In eyes, catching the light
Just as the lips
Curled upward
For the very first time.

In a world,
Where hate is rampant
And anger prevalent,
How precious
Is a newborn’s smile?

How exactly right.

There is no more clear
Indication,
Anywhere in the universe,
How wrong we’ve gotten
This anomaly we call life.

Mankind, I mean.
We focus
On all the wrong things
For all the wrong reasons.
We take every precious gift
God has given us
And pursue all the wrong goals,
In search of what precisely?
Do we even know?

In all truth,
The infant is the only
One on earth who does.
…The only one who already has
What it is we are all dying to reclaim
Without even knowing it.
…The only one who gets it.
Joy,
For nothing more
Than the sake of it.

It’s there,
In the sparkle of their eyes,
Tangible,
Pure,
Complete…
Given love.

For most,
Like that pulse of words
You couldn’t take time
To write down,
It vanishes all too quickly.

Michael...Very heart warming thoughts. I agree with you 100%. The innocence in  a baby's smile is so pure. Great poem...Paul

First and foremost I like your new pic!

Your words are so heart on. You capture the essence of a baby's smile so well you can almost smell it's sweet little head through out. For one who rides a dark horse often, you amazed me with thoughts of joy! ~L

**sighs**

Too quickly. This is very sweet, Michael.
This is something that I've never been able to capture.

Paul, thank you for your kind words.  It’s true, a baby is purely innocent.  No one is born disgruntled, it takes the world to bring such upon us.  We are born innocent, if there were a lil more brotherly love to go around in the world, I daresay it might be a better place.

Lori, your words mean much.  This was a lil out of my comfort zone, but in seeing the eyes in the baby pics that were sent to me, the joy was tangible and I realized that’s what we are born with, and that’s what we willingly sacrifice to the demands of this world, if we are not just outright stripped of it first.

Now then, did you happen to see where I parked my horse?

Sky~  I only wish it were something humanity could learn to carry a little longer…or rekindle at will.  We all have our eyes in the wrong places these days.

Jenn, this was indeed a challenge for me.  Came very close to not even leaving this up as I wasn’t comfortable I was presenting my thoughts in a proper manner, given all that you and your family are going through.  You approval and/or toleration means much to me. ((hugs to you))

Ida, thank you for you kind words.  If I were truly wise though, it wouldn't have taken me nearly this long to gain some perspective on life.

Karen,  I’ve always had vision, but never know if it’s reconciled to truth.  Such affirmation makes me smile.      thank you.  Your presence here on PiP once more is most welcome.
