Fragmented memories Intrusive thoughts Unexpected triggers Unreachable reality Hidden wounds Driving on road she had driven so many times before. The sky clear and blue, The clock on the dash says, 2pm in the afternoon. There is a country song on the radio. Heading home to her son and husband. Suddenly The unwanted memories start to sneak in Trying to stop them, she changed the radio station. Still they kept getting stronger. Trying to focus on anything else the thoughts just too strong, barging in causing chaos. What was once a smile Tears stream down her cheeks Just wanting reality She feels herself stop crying Her feelings a wreck Like waking from a nightmare that lingers... She wipes the tears The Anxiety, The panic, The scar reopened She shows no fear. Knowing she is not alone. God is her strength. |

J.J. Touching write, enjoyed very much. My wife has dementia and this reminded me so much of what she goes through each day. I had to stop letting her drive, because her mind wanders all the time. Thanks for sharing...Paul ~~To share my poems with you is to share my heart with you~~ |
