Through a Filter (Memory’s Portrait) The Past, It’s how we define ourselves. We view the past through a filter, though, Seeking security, Perhaps justification. All perceptions are different, Leading to and from any moment in time. We all come to them Maintaining predisposed beliefs. Opinion heavily influences focus. As we come out of them, Some details recalled vividly by one person Are completely lost to others. Time is a flaw even the best Of us can’t account for. Daily, the details obscure—fracture. What was once seen clearly, Maybe even intensely, Inevitably fades, Even as emotion Drawn of the moment Tends to solidify. While the mind, over time, Strives to fill in developing gaps, Is it any surprise then? That everyone finds themselves Coming away with a different truth, Solidly grounded in certainty.
