The Empty A sliver of the empty. A faded glimpse of chance. I wade upon the dark sea Of misdeliverance. Price paid to misconception, A giver of discord. The kiss of sweet deception, Alas, my just reward! To find courage is broken Beneath the twilight dim. A whisper left unspoken Across the requiem. Bequeath the will to echoes That bind soul to decay. A loss, given the shadows, To live another day. The overture declining, A challenge serving naught. Intentions undermining The peace in truth they sought. I shall not grant to despair What hope may yet remain, Nor, content with disrepair, Give over to disdain. Michael Anderson 03/02/2020 |

Am I reading this correctly? Do I see sadness possibly giving in to resolve to hope? The late hour may be affecting my brain. "How much is real? So much to question |

Ida, I know my poetry can be dark, and extremely hard to comment on at times. I appreciate your words when you can reply, and your reading even when you can’t. thank you. Jenn, You should probably mark the date of this poem. This was written when the effects of being off anti-depressants became noticeable to me. Like being pulled out of the deep ocean after a life under water. Somewhere in life I had made the choice not to feel at all was a good alternative to having to feel pain. Maybe the worst of the pain is finally just numbed and settled enough to allow for coping, but to have some feeling other than numbness and despair in a battle for complete control over me I found as a blessing. Hope was definitely inspired that day for me. Thank you for going back and finding this. Paul… I hope this serves as a preview for hope and inspiration returning to you as well my friend. J., I’m glad you enjoyed. ![]() Michael |
